Family Engagement

Family Engagement

Burnley Youth Theatre aims to work in outreach and community settings throughout East Lancashire in order to reach families who wouldn’t usually access theatre and the arts. Working in neighbourhood centres, libraries, schools, community centres, homeless shelters and hospices we aim to expand our reach and make our creative offer accessible to all.

Building sustainable and supportive relationships with families is an integral aim for our organisation. We believe the arts can promote well-being, build confidence, build skills and improve people’s lives. Our belief drives our commitment to create opportunities within the community for families to enjoy and take part in. Led by our Family and Youth Engagement Coordinator and facilitated by our team of experienced artists we deliver high quality projects that authentically respond to the needs of the community and the families we work with. We aim to identify the barriers and issues that exist within our community and support families to overcome those barriers in order for them to access creative opportunities, build skills, make friends and step into our organisation.

We have an exciting programme of professional children’s theatre productions throughout the year and we also facilitate extra creative activities for our families to participate in during programmed events making coming to the theatre an even more exciting experience. We run a weekly in house family workshop ‘Creative Families’ where families with children aged 0 – 4 can come and take part in creative play activities, meet other families and access our wider artistic offer. We also aim to bring families together at our Creative Family Days, these days are packed full of fun and you will find music, drama, dance and craft activities within our theatre space, studio spaces and outdoor picnic space, exciting activities that can be enjoyed by the whole family.
