The Youth Engagement work at Burnley Youth Theatre is delivered by Jay Walton, our Youth Engagement Worker. We deliver projects in the community with young people who may not normally access Burnley Youth Theatre activities. Working over a number of sessions, we use artistic engagement to explore issues such as community cohesion and antisocial and risk taking behaviour. Our projects aim to develop conversations and dialogue with young people to promote change, raise awareness and increase self esteem and confidence.
These projects usually culminate with a celebration event of the work they have created, such as a film premiere, exhibition or performance. Previous Community Outreach projects have focused on issues such as, knife crime, alcohol awareness and sexual health. The Youth Engagement work we deliver aims to build long-term relationships with local young people and support them to engage regularly with our activities and events.
