Our Work

Burnley Youth Theatre deliver, produce and programme a wide range of creative activities, productions and events which engage children, young people and families. We operate from a purpose built venue in Burnley, Lancashire which includes a 158 seat theatre, 3 studio spaces and 2 outdoor spaces. We deliver an exciting artistic programme at our home base, in schools and in community settings. We are an Arts Council National Portfolio organisation, recognition of the artistic work we deliver.

Inclusive Youth Theatre

There are plenty of ways for children, young people and families to get involved at Burnley Youth Theatre. From our inclusive Youth Theatre Programme which offers a range of creative workshops for ages 0-18 (up to 25 with LDD) to getting involved in our devised and scripted productions. We are dedicated to creating an inclusive and accessible space for participants to develop their performance skills, build confidence and have fun.

The Youth Theatre follows the academic calendar and runs three ten week long seasons which focus on different aspects of theatre from skill building to exploring a wide range of art forms.

We produce at least 6 in-house high quality youth theatre productions per year which range from devised new work to scripted classics. We have a varied programme of professional touring theatre from established companies from across the UK including The Royal Exchange, Little Angel and Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre.

We deliver youth and family engagement work in outreach settings which aims to tackle local issues and bring about change for communities, using the arts as a tool for exploring, challenging and creating ideas. This includes partnership working with local voluntary sector organisations including The Burnley and Pendle Faith Centre, Participation Works and local children’s and youth centres.

We deliver a Creative Education programme in local primary, secondary and special schools, bringing the curriculum to life through the arts. We work with schools to improve attainment, language and confidence in young people through curriculum based workshops, after school drama clubs, CPD for teachers, Arts Award and Arts Mark.

Our training programme for emerging artists and arts workers offers voluntary and paid work experience for anyone wanting to develop a career in the arts including performers, workshop leaders, arts administrators, technicians, front of house and marketers.
