Call out for Assistant Directors – Volunteer Opportunity
Do you want experience directing a show? Burnley Youth Theatre is looking for four young people aged 14-18 to be Assistant Directors for four brand new, short plays being performed in April 2026.
This is a fantastic volunteer opportunity to gain practical experience in the rehearsal room and learn the craft of directing for the stage.
The Opportunity
You will be paired with one of our Directors to support them in rehearsing and staging a 20-minute piece of new writing developed through our Step Up Writer’s Workshop. The four short performances will be split across two age groups:
- 2 Performances for Explorers (Cast will be ages 8-11)
- 2 Performances for Creatives (Older Age Group – Cast will be ages 12-18)
Your Role
As an Assistant Director, you will be a vital part of the creative team, working closely with your assigned Director to bring the new script to life. Your role will involve:
-
- Supporting the Director throughout the rehearsal process.
- Assisting with the cast, providing guidance and working with the young actors (ages 8-18).
- Note-taking and tracking the creative decisions made in rehearsals.
- Learning practical skills in staging, actor motivation, and collaboration.
