In 1985 it only cost £1.75 to see a cast of 26 perform The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe at The Quarry Theatre. Playing Lucy was Joanne Wright with Wendy Bennett as the White Witch and Martin Sharp as Aslan.
Burnley Youth Theatre created a mythical world of enchantment in 1994 when they next performed The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe at the Mechanics Theatre. Directed by Anthony Preston and starring Nick Maynard as Aslan, Karyn Pickard as the White Witch and Adrian Hall as Mr Tumnus.
In 2009 we found ourselves in Narnia at Christmas time. This production was dramatised by Adrian Mitchell. He referenced the dark overtones of the Second World War and drew parallels between fascism and the state control of the White Witch. Directed by Philip J. Hindle with music by Steve Brice. Lucy was played by Kae-Lei Stowell, Aslan by Daniel Julian, Mr Tumnus by Simon Robinson and the White Witch by Rachael Perkin.
In 2021 Burnley Youth Theatre returned to Narnia for its Christmas production directed by Ollie Daley. A huge wardrobe door was suspended in the theatre transporting the sold out audiences to the land of Narnia. Performed in the Alan Daiches Theatre, the White Witch was played by Karima Shah and Aslan was played by Chris Baines.
