CALL OUT FOR WRITERS

Step Up is back for another year!

Burnley Youth Theatre is seeking two young writers (aged 14–18) to each develop a new 30 – 40 minute script for the stage as part of our Step Up Writer’s Workshop! 

This is a fantastic opportunity to create an original piece of theatre and see your work brought to life by a full cast and production team.

The Opportunity

You will be the lead creative responsible for writing one of our original scripts that will be fully rehearsed and performed in 2027 by young people (ages 8-18).

The two short scripts will be split across two age groups and themes:

• 1 Script for Explorers (Younger Age Group – Cast Ages 8-11): Focusing on themes: Sleepover gone wrong OR Grand Day Out
• 1 Scripts for Creatives (Older Age Group – Cast Ages 12-18): Focusing on themes: Myths and Folklore OR Drama set in School 

Your Role and Support

You will be the writer, responsible for developing a 30- 40 minute script ready for performance.

• You will receive guidance and mentorship from our Associate Director throughout the development process which will help you develop your ideas and shape your work for the stage.

• An A4 page of example script
• About you – Please tell us a little about who you are, why you would like to write a play and  the kinds of stories you would like to see more of on stage

BYTEBACK THEATRE –  EARLY CAREER ARTIST OPPORTUNITIES

ByteBack Theatre is our in-house theatre company passionate about providing a valuable platform for young performers aged 18-25 to train, develop and perform. We create early years and issue based performances ready to make an impact touring to schools, theatre’s and community spaces across the UK.
