This summer at BYT, we proudly showcased two performances from our young people, The Tempest and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice which united the season’s theme of “A Brave New World” used throughout our weekly workshops
The Tempest, performed by secondary school aged participants, was a fascinating and chaotic rendition of the classic Shakespeare play. Working with their wonderful director, Matt Baker, the cast were inspired by all things weird, wonderful and mythological to tell their version of the story.
The Creative and Production team cleverly used traverse staging, lots of ropes and our brand new LED lighting to transport audiences to a mystical world filled with wonders and dangers.
“The characters in ‘The Tempest’ are complex and multifaceted, and we assembled a talented cast that breathed life into them with clarity and gusto” – Matt Baker
The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, performed by primary school aged participants, was full of magic and curiosities. For many of the cast it was their first experience of being in a directed show and performing on stage! Director, Charly Ward, transformed our theatre into an enchanted world full of dancing brooms and spellbinding tricks, while encouraging everyone involved to reach for the stars as anything is possible, even magic!
Both casts worked really hard rehearsing for a 10 week period, and were able to showcase their creative work at two public performances on 15th July and 22nd July 2023.
We are looking forward to seeing how these young people develop going forward in their theatre journey at BYT, and hope to see them at auditions for this year’s Christmas show, Peter Pan, which will be taking place on Wednesday 13th September.
