Row, row, row your boat back to 1977 when Burnley Youth Theatre first performed Toad of Toad Hall. Described as a mixture of fantasy and whimsy that delighted the opening night audience. Performing at Towneley Drama Studio were Stella Reid as Mole, Tony Snape as Badger, Victoria Boocock as Rat and Anthony Preston as Toad. Directed by Mick Dawson.
In 1983 Alan Miller directed The Wind in the Willows which was performed at Towneley Drama Studio.
The 1997 adaptation approached the characters of Toad, Rat, Mole and Badger from a human perspective. Anthony Preston directed the performance which took place at the Quarry Theatre. Daniel Mansell played Toad, Liam Greenfield played Badger, Gina Laycock played Rat and Amanda Astin played Mole.
In 2006 Andrew Raffle directed The Wind in the Willows which was performed in the new Alan Daiches Theatre. The production involved a boat, caravan, car and a train ride. While being faithful to the original story, the cast added their own ideas with the production being described as colourful and cartoon like.
